What Is a Periodontist? Meet Dr Henry at Perio Implant Harmony
If you've been told you need to see a periodontist, or you're simply looking after your gum health and want to understand your options, it helps to know what a periodontist actually is and how that differs from your regular dentist.
What is a periodontist?
A periodontist is a dental specialist in gums, bone and implants. Becoming a specialist means completing general dental training, working as a general dentist, and then undertaking additional specialist training focused specifically on periodontics.
Meet Dr Henry
Dr Henry completed six years of general dentistry before spending a further three years training as a specialist periodontist at the University of Melbourne. He has returned to Mildura to offer periodontal and implant services to the local community and surrounding region.
Do I need a referral to see a periodontist?
Referrals from other dentists are always welcome and help with shared care, but you do not need one to book a consultation directly.
What services are offered?
Services include treatment of gum disease (which often develops with few symptoms), dental implant assessment and planning as a replacement option for missing teeth, and other periodontal procedures such as gum grafting and crown lengthening.
What's the next step?
Suitability is determined following a clinical assessment. Not all patients are suitable for all treatments. Book a consultation for an assessment and a clear discussion of your options: perioimplantharmony.com.au/new-patients/
