Why deep cleans exist

Gum disease is a chronic inflammatory condition. Bacteria build up on the teeth, and over time the body's immune response to that bacteria can damage gum and bone. Once that loss has happened, it can't be reversed. What can be done is controlling the disease and stopping it from progressing further, which is the entire purpose of a deep clean.

What happens during the appointment?

A deep clean involves going around and thoroughly cleaning every single tooth, using specialised instruments and dedicating real time to each tooth to remove as much of the bacteria as possible.
